Fixed Window Counter

A RateLimiter algorithm

Implementation:

• fixed time windows
• X requests allowed per window

Pros:

• simple
• low memory

Cons:

• Spikes at window edge allows burst of traffic (e.g. 2X requests allowed if they span a window boundary)
